Tara Costa, owner of Orangetheory Fitness in Danbury, will open Orangetheory Fitness this fall on Ethan Allen Highway in Ridgefield.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — The Biggest Loser contestant, mother of one and one on the way, Tara Costa said she wants to inspire others to “experience more life” which is why she got into the fitness industry after struggling with her weight and body image for years. It impacted everything she did, she said.

“I went through a major life change after realizing I couldn’t walk up a flight out of stairs or take a subway without being drenched in sweat,” she said, reflecting back on the days when she worked in the in corporate finance.
“I was living life but I wasn’t really living—being the biggest person in the room, always looking for the chair— you don’t want to be who you are, you don’t feel comfortable in your own skin. After getting involved in the show, I made a vow to try to inspire change in the lives of others.”

That change came in the form of a fitness franchise which she opened with several partners in Danbury, Orangetheory Fitness. The Long Island woman became a fitness coach after The Biggest Loser Season 7 finale and helped a lot of people reach their goals. She started sending her clients to a gym in Long Island before deciding to open one of her own.
“After The Biggest Loser was over, I did Iron Mans and ran a few marathons, and the way that it made me feel, pushing myself physically and mentally helped me to break through a  barrier. You don’t realize how strong you are until you push yourself to do something. That’s what Orangetheory provides to people,” she said.

“I ended up partnering with two people— a client who lost 160 pounds, and a friend I met through my speaking circuit, Matt Long. All of us were impacted by fitness and fitness provided more life to us. The camaraderie that existed became so empowering,” she said of working with her partners.
Costa lost 155 pounds on The Biggest Loser and is now celebrating a special anniversary this May as she plans her kickoff party for her new location, Orangetheory Fitness Ridgefield with a celebration on Saturday, May 18 from 12-6:00 p.m. at 850 Degrees Wood Fired Pizza, 424 Main St., Ridgefield.
The family-friendly event includes face painters for the kids, a caricature artist, and a balloon twister. The first 100 people to arrive will receive a free heart rate monitor.
“This is a pre-sale and we’re offering the lowest rates we can offer in the state of Connecticut for a limited time,” she stated.
Her Ridgefield studio manager, Shaun Chang, is a dedicated fitness enthusiast and is very excited to be joining the team. He has always enjoyed making a difference in the community, loves to exercise, and finds pleasure working with all kinds of people.
Shaun is an active volunteer for Ann’s Place and serves on the Board of Directors for Apex Community Care. He worked in the healthcare industry in his previous career which helped him realize how important good health is to one’s future. Shaun currently works out, runs, and participates in obstacle races such as Tough Mudder and Spartan Races.
“He cares about people,” Costa said, “we lift each other up. We’re super excited to get to a take part in a community that’s already close-knit and so involved.”
Orangetheory Fitness Ridgefield will open in September on Ethan Allen Highway on the Ridgefield/Wilton line in the Keogh’s Hardware shopping plaza.
